Halifax LL238 at Marston Moor airfield.
On 20th November 1944 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was taking off from Marston Moor airfield with the crew tasked with flying a night cross country training exercise. The aircraft began it's take off run at 20.00hrs with a cross-wind blowing. While travelling at speed the aircraft began to swing off the runway. The pilot over-corrected the swing which saw it head towards Halifax LL508 that was parked and empty on a dispersal point. Halifax LL238 struck LL508 and both aircraft received damage enough to write both off.
Pilot - P/O Michael Claude Cranfield RAFVR (183597).
