Halifax LL234 at Elvington airfield.

On the evening of 26th March 1944 this 77 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Courtrai, the aircraft took off from Elvington at 19.12hrs and the crew released their bomb load from 12,500 feet at 21.01hrs. On their return to Elvington the undercarriage was lowered on the approach to land but the crew did not check that it had actually lowered. On landing at 23.47hrs the aircraft skidded to a halt on it's belly.
