Halifax LL170 at Dishforth airfield.
On the night of 28th / 29th September 1944 this 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight. At around midnight the crew were diverted to land at Dishforth and landed there without incident. The crew were instructed by Flying Control at Dishforth to taxi onto a dispersal point on the perimeter of the airfield and then they left the aircraft. A short time, at 00.38hrs, Halifax LL194 of the parent 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit was landing at Dishforth when it drifted slightly to starboard on the north to south runway but the crew did not correct the swing and it continued in a straight line until it struck Halifax LL170 slightly damaging both aircraft.
No crew.
