Halifax LL128 at Elvington airfield.

On the night of 20th / 21st January 1944 this 77 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on an operational flight to bomb Berlin but as the aircraft picked up speed on the runway at Elvington at 16.23hrs it swung off the runway. The swing wasn't corrected nor the power reduced from the engines and the aircraft ran off the airfield and into the boundary hedge. The aircraft came to rest with the undercarriage collapsed and a fire broke out. While the crew escaped the aircraft, it was then destroyed by fire.
