Halifax LK828 at Croft airfield.

On the night of 14th / 15th June 1944 this 431 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb a target at Cambrai and took off from Croft airfield at 22.31hrs. A fighter followed the aircraft on the run into th target but did not make an attack. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 11,850 feet at 00.56hrs onto a glow of target indicators through thick cloud. At 03.15hrs the aircraft landed at Croft airfield but the landing was heavy which caused the starboard undercarriage leg to collapse.
