Halifax LK785 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the afternoon of 15th October 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft was used to fly a dual instruction circuits and landings training exercise using Holme on Spalding Moor airfield. This may have been converting the pupil pilot to fly the Hercules powered Halifax MkIII as he appears new to the squadron and may have flown only Merlin engined Halifax MkII or MkV at an earlier heavy conversion unit. Prior to one of the landings at 16.53hrs the tail wheel was at right-angle to the fuselage so on landing it broke and collapsed. The tail oleo may have been damaged on an earlier heavy landing during the exercise.
Pilot (instructor) - F/O Malcolm William MacDonald RCAF (J/25401).
Pilot (pupil) - P/O D P Thompson RCAF (J/87612).
