Halifax LK731 at Elvington airfield.

During the evening of 11th February 1944 this 77 Squadron aircraft was flown on a practice bombing exercise. On the approach to land at Elvington at 21.20hrs the port outer engine cut out and to stop the aircraft was swinging the pilot used the tail rudder control. On landing a swing developed and the aircraft left the runway, running onto wet grass the aircraft eventually skidded into a tree. Minor damage resulted.
