Stirling LK512 at Lindholme airfield.

On 9th May 1944 this 1654 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a night training flight and while flying at around 15,000 feet when a problem with both the starboard outer engine and also the port outer engine had to be shut down. The aircraft would not maintain height while flying on just the two inner engines. The crew managed to fly the aircraft towards Lindholme airfield but the port undercarriage would not lower so the aircraft then landed at Lindholme airfield at 01.10hrs with the undercarriage totally raised. This belly landing appears to have saved the aircraft from total destruction, it was taken back to the factory and re-built, being given a new serial of TS264 when complete.
