Whitley LA950 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

On 29th November 1944 this Whitley was in the care of the ATA when it hit a flock of birds as it became airborne at Sherburn in Elmet airfield at 10.00hrs. It was landed back at the airfield with three holes in the starboard wing, a damaged gun turret and bomb aimers panel, and a bird lodged in the starboard air intake.

The pilot had earlier been at the controls when Hurricane HW968 was damaged on 16th November 1942 at Hawarden.
