Mosquito KB298 damaged in the air, landed at Topcliffe airfield.

On the evening of 29th November 1944 this 608 Squadron aircraft was one tasked with flying an operational flight to bomb Hamburg. The aircraft took off from base of Downham Market at 19.11hrs. Over the target area the Mosquito was attacked and damaged in the wings and fuselage by an enemy aircraft and also by flak. The enemy aircraft's gunfire damaged the bomb release equipment so the crew were unable to release their load. The attack was made moments before the crew were about to release their load. Despite the damage the crew managed to fly back across the North Sea but appear to have completely missed Norfolk and Lincolnshire, instead making a safe landing at Topcliffe airfield at 23.47hrs without further damage. A 24 hour delay fuze bomb was later removed from the bomb bay of the aircraft by members of Topcliffe airfield's armament section. Mosquito KB298 is the aircraft quoted as landing at Topcliffe with damage in the 608 Squadron records and this fits with this aircraft's AM Form 78 for damage sustained. Topcliffe airfield's record book states it was Mosquito KB205 but this aircraft did not serve with 608 Squadron.
