Halifax JN969 at Wombleton airfield.
On 12th December 1944 the crew of this 1666 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft had been carrying out a training exercise and were landing back at Wombleton airfield at 23.25hrs with the windscreen covered in ice. With visibility reduced the aircraft landed heavily damaging the port undercarriage, the centre section and main spar. The crew escaped injury and went on to complete their training course, they went on to serve with 432 Squadron.
