Halifax JN907 at Rufforth airfield.
At 12.05hrs on 22nd February 1944 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was damaged on landing at Rufforth airfield when it bounced and swung off the runway. A gust of wind caught the aircraft and the port wing tip clipped the ground, a ground loop followed and the undercarriage legs gave way. The unit records state that this occurred at Rufforth airfield and not at their home airfield of Marston Moor.
Pilot - Sgt Trevor Gordon Harrison RAFVR (1579373).
Trevor Harrison was later posted to 578 Squadron and received a commission in June 1944. He and his crew were posted missing on 20th / 21st July 1944 while flying Halifax MZ572 on Ops to Bottrop. They have no known grave and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. This was a bad night for 578 Squadron; they lost six aircraft with 36 airmen being killed.
