Halifax JD421 near Osgodby, Selby.
At 13.09hrs on 25th August 1944 this 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft took off from Riccall airfield with the crew tasked with fighter affiliation exercise. Soon after taking off however the starboard outer engine cut out. The undercarriage was left down and the extra drag meant that the aircraft would not maintain height. A forced landing made in a field near Osgodby, Selby a minute after becoming airborne with the undercarriage down but it later collapsed before the aircraft came to a halt.
