Halifax JD373 at Marston Moor airfield.
During the afternoon on 12th March 1944 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was used to fly a training flight which was the pupil pilot's first dual instruction flight with an instructor. On landing at 18.20hrs the aircraft landed at Marston Moor with the pupil at the controls but began to swing off the runway. The instructor took control but could not prevent the aircraft from colliding with a tar barrel that had been left just off the runway by contractors.
