Halifax JB797 at Riccall airfield.

During the evening of 3rd March 1944 this 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a dual circuits and landings exercise using Riccall airfield. At 20.00hrs the aircraft landed heavily at Riccall and the starboard mainplane sustained damage. A later inspection suggested that the heavy landing was not sufficient to have caused the fracture of the mainplane that had occurred. The damage wrote off the aircraft as it was not economic to repair it.
