Halifax HX319 damaged in the air, returned to Skipton on Swale airfield.
National Archives file "AIR14/3310" gives a series of questions from the Operational Research Section "O.R.S. Damage Inspector" in respect of damage to No.6 Group aircraft that sustained damage on operational sorties where damage was mentioned in squadron raid reports but not in other reporting methods. Upon checking the squadron records the damage to some of these aeroplanes is mentioned but other entries have no damage recorded against them. In the case of those where no further reference can be found I have made a note on each specific webpage.
AIR14/3310 states that 424 Squadron Halifax HX319 was very slightly damaged by flak on 25th June 1944. The squadron records state that during the morning of 25th June 1944 this 424 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Gorenflos and took off from Skipton on Swale airfield at 06.58hrs. They released their bomb load onto red target markers at 13,000 feet at 09.00hrs. The crew flew back to Skipton on Swale and landed at 11.07hrs. No damage is mentioned in the squadron record (AIR27/1835/10). The pilot was later recommended for the DFC and the recommendation states that his aircraft was hit by flak on this night, it therefore seems highly likely that Halifax HX319 was damaged on this date.
