Halifax HX288 at Skipton on Swale airfield.

On 5th January 1944 this 433 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight, probably a Bullseye exercise. At 15.00hrs the aircraft made an approach to land but towards a low sun. The landing at Skipton on Swale airfield was heavy, the aircraft swung off the runway and into soft ground. Minor damage resulted. Although the AM Form 1180 for the incident does not state it, the 433 Squadron records state that of the nine aircraft that flew Bullseyes on this date one returned to base early with an engine failure. This was probably why it began to swing on landing.

Pilot - F/Sgt John Arthur Bourgeault RCAF (R/139513).
