Halifax HX268 damaged in the air, returned to Skipton on Swale airfield.
National Archives file "AIR14/3310" gives a series of questions from the Operational Research Section "O.R.S. Damage Inspector" in respect of damage to No.6 Group aircraft that sustained damage on operational sorties where damage was mentioned in squadron raid reports but not in other reporting methods. Upon checking the squadron records the damage to some of these aeroplanes is mentioned but other entries have no damage recorded against them. In the case of those where no further reference can be found I have made a note on each specific webpage.
AIR14/3310 states that on 24th June 1944 433 Squadron Halifax HX268 sustained "very minor" damage, this was probably flak damage though the file does not state so.
During the afternoon of 14th June 1944 the crew of this 433 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Bonnetot and took off from Skipton on Swale airfield at 14.44hrs. They released their bomb load onto the target visually and also through target markers from 13,200 feet at 17.02hrs. The aircraft returned to Skipton on Swale airfield and landed at 19.10hrs. The squadron records (AIR27/1862/12) does not mention any damage. Looking up each airman flying in HX268 on this date, the first six officers were all later awarded DFC's for service with 433 Squadron. The flight engineer missed out of any later DFM / DFC completely.
