Halifax HX244 at Leconfield airfield.
During the evening of 13th September 1944 this 640 Squadron aircraft was to have been used to fly an operational flight to bomb a target the Nordstern oil plant at Gelsenkirchen. During the take off run at Leconfield airfield at 16.07hrs the pilot realised that the air speed indicator failed to register, he reduced the power to the engines and attempted to stop the aircraft but the aircraft overshot and the undercarriage collapsed.
