Halifax HX243 at Leconfield airfield.
During the afternoon of 23rd January 1944 this 466 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight. At 16.00hrs the aircraft had landed at Leconfield and was being taxied into a dispersal point when the brakes failed. The aircraft ran off the concrete and the port wheel dropped into a ditch causing the port outer engine to received damage, the exhaust ring tore away causing a small fire that spread to the fuselage. The fire was soon extinguished having resulted in only minor damage to the aircraft.
