Halifax HR913 at Lindholme airfield.

During the evening of 3rd May 1944 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight. During the flight and while flying at 12,000 feet the port outer engine oil pressure dropped so the crew feathered the propeller and shut down the engine. To fly the aircraft straight and level the pilot opened the trim tab on the starboard rudder trim to the maximum but on the approach to land at Lindholme he forgot to take it off and also approached the landing at too great speed. On landing the aircraft swung to starboard and when it ran through a ditch on the northern side of the airfield the undercarriage collapsed.

Pilot - F/Sgt Harold Duncan Murray RAFVR (1432302).
