Wicko GM.1 Warferry HM499 at Leeming airfield.

On 26th August 1944 this aeroplane taxied into a lorry at Leeming airfield. Why the aircraft was at Leeming is not yet known, it was on the books with No.27 Group Communications Flight based at South Cerney at the time.

Pilot - Name unknown.


The aircraft was originally registered on the UK civilian register as Foster Wikner Wicko G-AFVK on 13th June 1939 to the Foster, Wikner Aircraft Co.Ltd. of Southampton. It was requestitioned by the RAF after the outbreak of war, renamed a Wicko GM.1 Warferry and given the RAF serial HM499. Following the mishap at Leeming on 26th August 1944 it was converted into an instructional airframe 4962M but after this nothing more of the aircraft is yet known.
