Argus HM179 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

On 8th May 1944 this aircraft was being flown by a pilot of the ATA, it struck deep ruts in grass on landing at Sherburn in Elmet airfield at 16.00hrs, unfortunately the ruts ripped off the aircraft's wheels. The damage was deemed beyond economic repair and it was later written off. The aircraft was built as a Fairchild 61 Forwarder in the USA before being shipped to the UK and allocated an RAF serial number.
