Halifax EB275 at Topcliffe airfield.

On the night of 10th / 11th August 1944 this 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a night circuits and landings training exercise using Topcliffe airfield. On board was a crew of seven including two trainee pilots who were twin brothers. The aircraft took off from Topcliffe at 23.43hrs. At 01.40hrs the aircraft landed normally at Topcliffe but then tail wheel assembly collapsed, possibly down to internal structural damage. Minor damage to the aircraft resulted. Both names men were trainees, no instructor was on board at the time.
