Halifax DT740 at Wistow Lordship.
During the morning of 5th February 1944 this 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was used to fly a training exercise that involved practicing making three engined landings at Riccall airfield. At 10.00hrs the pupil made a poor approach to land so the instructor asked him to make an overshoot to fly a circuit of the airfield and make a further approach to land. The trainee appears to have raised the undercarriage but left the flaps extended so the aircraft would not climb away. A forced landed was then made at the other side of the River Ouse in the region of Wistow Lordship.
