Halifax DT560 at Topcliffe airfield.
On 15th March 1944 this 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown by an instructor to give two pupil pilots their initial dual training flights in the Halifax type. On making a landing at Topcliffe at around 15.00hrs in a cross-wind the aircraft stalled just prior to touching down, the port wing dropped and the wing tip struck the ground. The pilot managed to land and prevented the aircraft from then swinging off the runway.
