Lancaster DS848 (possibly) damaged in the air, landed at Linton on Ouse airfield.
On the night of 28th / 29th July 1944 the crew of this 408 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Hamburg and took off from Linton on Ouse airfield at 22.42hrs. They released their bomb load onto target markers from 17,600 feet at 01.16hrs. On the flight home the Lancaster was attacked by an enemy aircraft. The squadron records state that the Lancaster was not damaged but it would appear to have been slightly damaged as it is logged in a damage log submitted to 6 Group HQ (now held at National Archives file AIR14-3310). The crew returned to Linton on Ouse and landed at 04.15hrs.
