Lancaster DS841 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
At 15.30hrs on 30th April 1944 this 426 Squadron aircraft was being taxied from a dispersal point around Linton on Ouse airfield when the port brakes failed, this caused the aircraft to swing off the perimeter track and into the wing of parked 426 Squadron Halifax LW377. Both aircraft received minor Cat.Ac/FA damage. The rod that connected the foot pedal to the brake system was found to have broken, possibly due to earlier adjustment. 426 Squadron were in the process of changing their Lancasters for Halifaxes at this time so had both types on charge at the same time.
Pilot - F/Sgt David Douglas Dakin RCAF (R/159080).
David Dakin was awarded the DFC for service with 426 Squadron, Gazetted on 17th November 1944.
