Lancaster DS727 damaged in the air, returned to Linton on Ouse airfield.
In the early hours of 18th June 1944 the crew of this 408 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb supply site targets at Oisemont / Neuville and took off from Linton on Ouse airfield at 01.11hrs.
Thick cloud over the target obscured the crew's visibility but the crew released their bomb load on to the glow of red target markers from 12,200 feet at 03.11hrs on instruction from the master bomber. The aircraft was attacked by a single engined enemy aircraft that resulted in two holes being made in the fuselage and rudder and the mid upper turret went unservicable. Fortunately evasive action taken must have worked. The crew returned to Linton on Ouse and landed safely at 05.18hrs.
