Proctor DM225 near Todmorden.

On 9th December 1944 this aircraft was being flown between Ratcliffe and Edsell (to 44 MU) by an ATA pilot of No.4 Ferry Pilot Pool when the engine failed over the Pennines. The pilot made a forced landing in a field near Stones Farm, Todmorden without damage at 12.30hrs. It was found that water and dirt had got into the fuel system causing the engine failure.

Henry Spain died on 28th October 1945 during a hospital operation on his head following an eye injury held at the closing party of the ATA at Ratcliffe airfield.
