Halifax DK132 near Colton.
Just before 17.15hrs on 8th September 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft took off from Rufforth with the crew beginning a training flight. As the aircraft became airborne on the north-south runway the port inner engine and the starboard outer engine cut out. Being unable to maintain height on just two working engines the crew made a forced landing straight ahead near Colton with the undercarriage up. The location is referred to in Clifton airfield flying control log as being between Colton and the Buckles Inn.
