Halifax DJ987 at Rufforth airfield.
During the afternoon of 9th September 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a circuits and landings training exercise at Rufforth airfield. After landing at 13.40hrs the aircraft was being taxied from the landing runway onto the another runway when, without warning or instruction, the flight engineer touched the undercarriage levers and raised the starboard undercarriage. Both runways became blocked.
