Halifax DG422 at Rufforth airfield.
On 3rd May 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft landed at Rufforth airfield at 16.03hrs during a training flight but developed a tail wheel shimey on touching down. Unfortunately the tail wheel assembly broke before the aircraft was brought to a halt and it came to rest slightly damaged. This was a common problem with Halifax tail wheels throughout the war. Postwar this pilot rose to become Chief of the Defence Staff for France and upon leaving the military he played an important role in the Concorde project.
Pilot - Cpt Andre Puget FFAF (0455).
