Halifax DG417 at Pocklington airfield.

On 7th January 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft bounced and then swung on landing at Pocklington airfield at 19.30hrs during a night training flight, it came to rest in a field near the airfield with e port undercarriage leg collapsed and damage to the port wing. The flight was the pilot's first solo flight in a Halifax. The damage was initially believed repairable but was later re-assessed as being beyond economic repair.

Pilot - Sgt Hubert Hedley Wastell RAFVR (1317490).


Hubert Wastell was later posted to 51 Squadron and was awarded the DFC for service with them.
