Halifax DG416 at Rufforth airfield.

On the night of 24th / 25th May 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight. On landing on the short runway at Rufforth at 02.35hrs following a 4.40 hour flight the aircraft overshot the concrete. To try and stop the aircraft from going through the boundary the pilot deliberately swung the aircraft. Unfortunately the undercarriage then collapsed and the aircraft was badly damaged.

Pilot - Cmdt Georges Camille Ostre FFAF (3361).
