Halifax DG308 at Dishforth airfield.

During the evening of 30th January 1944 this 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight. On the approach to land at Dishforth at 19.28hrs the pupil pilot lowered the bomb doors instead of the flaps. Having then made a fast landing the brakes had had little effect and as the aircraft was about to overshoot the instructor deliberately swung the aircraft on the airfield, unfortunately the undercarriage then collapsed and the aircraft was badly damaged. It blocked Runway 22 came to rest with its back broken.
