Halifax DG247 at Dishforth airfield.
During the morning of 8th February 1944 this 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on what become the pilot's first solo flight in a Halifax. On landing at Dishforth at 11.45hrs the aircraft began to swing off the runway. The pilot was unable to correct the swing correctly and the aircraft ended up ground looping which saw the undercarriage legs collapse. The Dishforth airfield station records state that two aircraft ground looped on this date that then saw both received Cat.E damage. DG247 was one but there is no AM Form 1180 for the second so it's identity is not yet known. The pilot was posted to 432 Squadron later in the month.
Pilot - F/Sgt Willie Billie Studnik RCAF (R/162256).
