Halifax DG232 at Dishforth airfield.
During the morning of 4th May 1944 this 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a circuits and landings training exercise using Dishforth airfield. After twenty minutes flying the aircraft made an approach to land at Dishforth at 11.30hrs in a strong wind but the pupil pilot allowed the aircraft's speed to drop, fearing the aircraft would stall the instructor took control but could not prevent a heavy landing being made. The aircraft came to rest with the starboard undercarriage collapsed. The pupil pilot and his crew were posted to 426 Squadron days later on completion of their course at 1664 H.C.U..
