Whitley BD370 near Lindholme airfield.
On the night of 27th / 28th January 1944 the crew of this 24 Operational Training Unit aircraft took off from Honeybourne at 21.15hrs to undertake a night navigation exercise. During the flight the port engine lost oil pressure followed by flames were seen coming from the engine. At 00.15hrs the pilot managed to land the aircraft in a field just short of Lindholme airfield with the undercarriage up. The aircraft was badly damaged but the crew escaped injury.
