Halifax BB307 at Marston Moor airfield.
During the afternoon of 10th January 1944 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was to be flown on a combined practice bombing and air to sea firing exercise. At 15.10hrs while taking off in a slight cross wind from Marston Moor airfield the aircraft swung off the runway. The starboard main tyre burst and the aircraft lost it's starboard undercarriage leg before it could be stopped. The damage was deemed enough not to warrant a repair.

Halifax BB307 was built to contract B.124357/40 by the London Passenger Transport Board Ltd, at Leavesden and was awaiting collection on 24th January 1943. It was taken on charge almost immediately by 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit at Marston Moor and as a result of minor damage sustained on 26th February 1943 minor Cat.A/FA damage was the assessment. It was repaired on site and returned to use by 1652 H.C.U. until it crashed at Marston Moor on 10th January 1944. After this incident Cat.E2/FA damage was the assessment and it was written off.
