Halifax EB248 / BB248 at Topcliffe airfield.
At 17.55hrs on 3rd May 1944 this 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being taxied around Topcliffe airfield to a dispersal point when it swung off the perimeter track and into a hedge. Minor damage to the starboard outer propeller and to the starboard fin and rudder resulted. The incident is mentioned within the No.61 Base RCAF record book which gives the aeroplane identity as being BB248. The incident is also mentioned in a No.6 Group flying control log which identifies the aeroplane as being EB248. There is no AM Form 1180 for the incident. The damage is not listed on the aeroplane's AM Form 78. This suggests the damage was only very minor, probably Cat.A. Both BB248 and EB248 were on the books with 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit at the time so which one was damaged in this incident is unclear. BB248 was then damaged at Topcliffe on 15th May 1944.
