Unidentified aircraft at Carnaby airfield.

The Carnaby airfield record book states that on 8th August 1944 six aircraft made emergency landings at Carnaby with one of these being a belly landing with it sustaining Cat.Ac damage.

This incident may relate to Halifax NA519, of 347 Squadron, for which I have already made a webpage for. This aircraft was damaged taking off from Elvington at 18.55hrs for Ops to Fromental but made an early return owing to undercarriage trouble. It landed at Carnaby at 19.30hrs. While the squadron records make no mention it was damaged it must have been because a Cat.Ac damage assessment was made against it but this may have been damage sustained while taking off at Elvington rather than further damage at Carnaby. It took until 18th October 1944 for it to be made servicable and returned to 347 Squadron. Had it belly landed at Carnaby one could argue that more serious damage that a Cat.Ac damage assessment would probably have resulted.
