P-38 Lightning 42-67805 near Withernsea.
On 27th April 1944 this 554th Fighter Training Squadron aircraft, belonging to the 496th Fighter Training Group, USAAF, took off from Goxhill, Lincolnshire to undertake a training flight. I have yet to buy the USAAF accident report for this incident so further details are not yet known. The aircraft crashed or crash landed in the area of Risby Park, Withernsea. The pilot's rank is not yet known.
Pilot - Jack V Johnson USAAF (O-756599).
The pilot was probably the same Captain Jack V Johnson USAAF (O-756599) who died on 12th December 1944 and who is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Belgium. He is also commemorated at the New Altoona Cemetery, Iowa, USA. He was serving with the 384th Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group, USAAF and was probably flying Mustang 44-14992 "Penney III".
