UC-78 Bobcat 43-31968 at Scorton airfield.
On 1st August 1944 this ex-415th Night-Fighter Squadron, U.S.A.A.F. aircraft made a wheels-up landing at Scorton airfield. The 422nd Night Fighter Squadron and the 425th Night Fighter Squadron, both part of the 481st Night Fighter O.T.G., USAAF were the two USAAF flying units based at Scorton in the weeks previous to this incident but both appear to have left before August 1944, moving to France after D-Day. Both flew the P-61 Black Widow. Scorton was not used by a flying USAAF unit after this. I need to buy the USAAF accident report to discover what this Bobcat was doing at Scorton.
