Unidentified Halifax, possibly damaged in the air, landed at Elvington airfield.

On 30th April 1944 this unidentified 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aeroplane was flown on a practice bombing exercise using the range at Strensall. While over the general target area the port inner engine developed a fault and gave no boost. Some form of fire broke out in the starboard outer engine so the crew made a landing at nearby Elvington airfield at 16.15hrs. The only mention of the incident I have located is within a No.6 Group flying control log that purely identifies the aircraft as "-Z". The aircraft was repaired on site at Elvington and was ready by the afternoon of 4th May 1944.

Pilot - F/O Kenneth Alan McCaskill RCAF (J/26747).

Crew - Names unconfirmed, probably McCaskill's 427 Squadron crew.
