Unidentified Halifax at Rufforth airfield.
During the night of 29th / 30th April 1944 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was to be flown on a night cross country training flight. On take off from Rufforth at 22.56hrs the aircraft burst one of the main tyres but became airborne as normal. The crew were ordered to carry out the training exercise but on landing at Rufforth at 04.30hrs the aircraft swung to starboard, it came to a halt with the undercarriage still intact but with some damage to the wheel. The Rufforth station orb identifies the aircraft purely as "C-Flight / -R" and I have not yet worked out what serial number carried the "-R" unit code yet.
Crew - Names unknown.
