Oxford X6658 near Edlington, Doncaster.

I have currently found two references to this incident on 27th May 1943. The first is a reference to an unidentified British aircraft being listed in a police record as simply being force-landed near Edlington. The second is in the 25 O.T.U. ( / with Finningley station record) orb stating that Oxford V6658 ex-Bircotes aircraft force landed near Old Edlington with a cowling torn off, the front fuselage, both mainplanes and the undercarriage were also damaged but no casualties resulted. Both references must refer to the same incident.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Oxford X6658 was built to contract B.66827/40 by Airspeed Ltd. at Christchurch and was awaiting collection in September 1941. On 26th October 1941 it was initially taken on charge by 16 (P) F.T.S. at Hucknall. As a result of the incident at Edlington on 27th May 1943 Cat.B/FA damage was the damage assessment, from here it was transported by road for a repair in works by Airspeed Ltd at Christchurch. Once servicable it passed into an MU store before being taken on charge by 1674 H.C.U. on 26th February 1945 at Aldergrove. On 20th August 1945 the aircraft was transferred to 111 (C) O.T.U. at Lossiemouth. On 3rd January 1946 the aircraft was flown into an MU store where it remained until being struck off charge on 8th June 1950.
