On 24th July 1943 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight during the afternoon. The aircraft took off from Lindholme at 14.15hrs but as the aircraft picked up speed the tail wheel assembly broke. The pilot managed to get the aircraft into the air but the tail wheel fell off. After a flight lasting forty minutes a landing was made at Lindholme, probably keeping the tail off the concrete for as long as possible. Minor Cat.Ac damage resulted.
