Lancaster W4785 at Breighton airfield.

On 9th January 1943 this 460 Squadron aircraft was flown on a daytime altitude test, the aircraft took off from Breighton at 11.15hrs. The aircraft was flown up to 24,000 feet and the temperature dropped to -38 degrees. Part of the test then included opening the bomb doors and because of ice forming the doors and hinge mountings were damaged. A safe landing was made at Breighton at 15.00hrs. Minor Cat.Ac damage was the damage assessment.

Richard Osborn was made a PoW on 23rd January 1943 when Lancaster W4308 failed to return from Ops to Dusseldorf.
