Lancaster W4785 damaged in the air, landed at Breighton airfield.

There is an AM Form 1180 that appears to state that on 29th January 1943 this 460 Squadron aircraft sustained damage to the bomb doors caused by the effects of ice forming on them, which probably resulted in damage when they were opened. There is no other information on the AM Form 1180. An earlier AM Form 1180 states that on 9th January 1943 exactly the same thing happened to this aircraft with the same pilot flying it. It may well be that this later incident was not a different incident, or a modification was made so was retested on 29th January 1943 but the same result occurred.

Pilot - S/Ldr Richard Bentley Osborn DFC RAFVR (74686).

Richard Osborn was made a PoW on 23rd January 1943 when Lancaster W4308 failed to return from Ops to Dusseldorf.
